A Child’s Light was honored to receive an invitation on November 17, 2015 from Lowell General Hospital (LGH) to announce their intent to implement a nationally recognized Abusive Head Trauma/Shaken Baby Syndrome (AHT/SBS) program.

The AHT/SBS program materials are designed and distributed by The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) which is located in Farmington, Utah. The NCSBS is the only worldwide organization dedicated solely to the prevention of this form of child abuse.

Parents and/or caregivers of every child born at LGH will receive the prevention and awareness educational presentation by a trained hospital representative prior to leaving the hospital. LGH expects to have 150 hospital personnel certified to provide the training to parents and caregivers. Additionally, LGH will provide the education to parents and/or caregivers of children six months or younger in their Pediatrics Unit.

Lowell General was the first birthing hospital in Massachusetts that committed to implementing the nationally recognized AHT/SBS program. Implementation of this program would not have come to fruition without the tireless efforts of Liz Lydstone, Amy McCabe and Laura Federico from LGH, Julie (Price) Noble from The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome and Paul Muzhuthett from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  Thank you all very much!

A Child’s Light looks forward to providing program support to Lowell General Hospital, Emerson Hospital, Heywood Hospital, Health Alliance Hospital and Anna Jaques Hospital.
